If you’re in the market to find a face moisturizer that works, then this is the product for you, especially if you have dry skin. I’ve been using Clinique pep-start hydrorush moisturizer with SPF-20 for a couple of MONTHS (yes months!) and I’m in love with it. Here’s my honest review on this product.
First thing first, don’t get this mixed up with the Clinique pep-start hydroblur moisturizer. It comes in a blue container similar to the picture above, while the pep-start hydrorush moisturizer SPF-20 comes in a yellow container. Honestly I think The difference is that the yellow container has UV protection against the sun.
Now that I’ve established the difference, I will now get into depts about this product.
The container holds 1.7oz or 50ml of product and costs $29.50 on the Clinique website. When I was first purchasing this item I thought how ridiculous the price was for such a small amount. I bought this product earlier this year, I want to say around February or March. It is now October and I still have a good amount of product left. At first, I didn’t apply every day. I was applying about 3-4 days out of the week. It’s always hard to add or change my daily routine, but as time went on it became my daily routine. Not only is it hydrating but you need so little each application. which makes this product worth the price I paid for. You can apply to the face by itself or use it as a primer to apply to the face before makeup.
The product is a white/creme color inside. It has a very weird smell, almost like sunscreen. I personally do not mind the smell, but I know that some people might.
I went to Sephora to find a facial cream that would moisturize my face. I have dry skin, and during Texas hot summer days it gets worse. I told one of the ladies in Sephora about the condition of my skin and she recommended this product. Upon trying the product for the first time, I was blown away. According to the Clinique website, this product is oil-free and suppose to give you hydration throughout the day. I’ve worn this product by itself as well as with make-up.
Applying it without makeup:
When I wear it by itself, I can definitely tell the difference immediately I put it on. My skin feels softer and it gives it a glow. You want to make sure you don’t put too much on the face because it can get greasy pretty QUICK! I over applied the first few times I used the product and had to dab my face with a towel to get the excess grease off. This little 1.7oz product has lasted me months and is yet to finish. I personally would NOT recommend this product to people with oily skin.
Applying with Makeup:
To my understanding, the lady at Sephora who helped me pick out this product says it works like a primer. So I thought why not give it a try? I used Nars sheer glow foundation with this product and it really wasn’t bad. It gave me a smooth natural finish and added glow. The main issue that I had was that my makeup didn’t last and it was easily transferable. Wouldn’t recommend using it as a primer if you’re wanting your makeup to last all day.
After a fresh face I apply the Clinique moisturizer, do my eyebrows while I let the moisturizer set into my skin and then apply my regular primer before foundation.
All in all, this product is worth the try especially if you suffer from dry skin.
- Is it worth the price? due to the fact that you need just a little bit and the fact that it works, I would say yes.
- Does it give all day moisture? definitely.
- Wear with makeup? Yes but also apply your regular primer as well, for long-lasting coverage.
- Do you recommend for people with oily skin? I really don’t recommend it for people with oily skin due to the fact that it can get greasy even on dry skin.
